Becoming an SEO Consultant, Social Media Consultant and Internet Marketing consultant wasn’t a straightforward path!
Entering ‘business’ at the age of 24, Elton never had the ‘entrepreneurial seizure’ but despite ‘falling into it’, he soon made his mark. He instinctively knew what made a good business. Sticking to high standards in terms of the websites he built and the customer service he offered, it wasn’t long before his company, Urban Media, had a string of blue chip clients and confidence was high.
Despite the ‘status’ of having such clients, this never meant as much to Elton as it did to those around him. He had achieved a level of success, but wanted something new. Three years in and he was about to hatch a plan to launch the UK haulage industry’s biggest website (uk-trucking.net). Moving from website builder to website owner, the site was a phenomenal success with over 5 million visitors per month using the site to find information, news and services. Advertisers on the site included major truck manufacturers, fuel companies and tyre companies. The site was being quoted regularly in national press and trade journals. It was also about to prove a huge learning curve.
His no-nonsense approach and a solid passion for helping others was a key factor in Elton being awarded the prestigious NEBP ‘Best Business Partnership Award’. This was a huge achievement as Elton competed against many Blue Chip companies to take the top award. He was well on his way to becoming an inspirational SEO consultant, social media consultant and internet marketing consultant. The same drive, passion and business acumen was spotted as he was asked to assist Peter Jones (Dragon’s Den, UK) to select students to form the Pathfinder intake of the country’s first ‘National Enterprise Academy’. Elton interviewed the budding entrepreneurs asking the same opening question; “How many business ideas did you ‘can’ on the way in today?” He belived that the skill of an entrepreneur lies in which ideas you don’t take up rather than those you do. He later taught the successful students that being an entrepreneur is both a gift and a disease! It is 24/7, burning and difficult to control. Yet to be successful, you must do exactly that!
Elton was further recognised when he was asked to help the government ‘design’ the Creative and Media Diploma qualification, helping those who did not fit the typical model for current learning systems. Urban Media, and Elton specifically, is very involved with local students. He provides work experience, mentoring and in school motivational talks to support them. His passion for business and local economic growth continued during his role as Vice Chair of Wycombe Enterprise (Investment, Skills, Enterprise and Regeneration group). He was also the founder of the Wycombe Business Expo, described as the best business initiative to hit High Wycombe since records began! This was an idea he had incubated for some time before gathering the right team and creating this successful annual event. Whilst Elton is now on the ‘world stage’, he has a real mission for his local area too.
He is adviser to a range of businesses and has a natural mentoring style. Elton’s no-nonsense approach often leads to massive results quickly. He will also not let go, in terms of holding you accountable. Most business owners are distracted by the ‘new thing’. Elton’s own experiences show that the true path to success is by first doing what you have to do and then rewarding yourself with doing the things you want to do. It is Elton’s holistic passion for business that makes his internet marketing so effective. Where most internet marketers are involved in achieving more ‘clicks’, Elton is only interested in achieving you more ‘profits’. After all, his own story includes owning a website that had more clicks than you would dream of, but it was to end in a huge financial loss. He knows firsthand what that feels like.
